About me
I am a designer who loves to come up with ideas, and collaborate with others, but also love to spend time hands-on in execution. Seeing things come to life, whether it’s a logo in a corporate identity or a design displayed on a big digital screen at a conference, is one of the most satisfying feelings.
When I’m not working, I’m with my family and my two kids doing sports or traveling. Soccer is a passion that runs deeply through my entire family (I feel very lucky about this). I played competitively as a goalkeeper growing up (so did my wife and now my kids) and I still play today. I am a volunteer coach and I sit on the board of a non-profit soccer organization focused on making sure that kids from all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds have an opportunity to play and belong.
I was born and raised in Chile, and moved to the US as a senior in high school without speaking much English to pursue higher education. This was one of the biggest gifts that life has given me, since it has helped shape the way I see things, experience different cultures, and expand my horizons. I think that this shows up in my design work too: a visual sense shaped by having to look at the world constantly with fresh eyes.
Photography
When time allows, I love to go outdoors and explore with my camera to do landscape photography (In Colorado I’m witness to majestic light and colors during every season). This allows me to slow down and pay close attention to details and see things we are most of the time too busy to even notice. It’s a great way to recharge my creative juices in a time when everything must be done yesterday.
Pointillism
I also love sitting down at home with a light, a magnifying glass, and a good podcast or music in the background to do pointillism (creating an image made of tiny little dots). It is a slow and repetitive process (it takes me months to complete a 5x7” image) but becomes a form of meditation. It helps me think and clear my head, and come back to design work with a fresher eye.
